• Egypt, Jordan, Israel Study Tour

    September 4 - 19, 2015

This Less Strenuous Tour seeks to provide the opportunity to encounter the Biblical story on location.” This Tour involves walking and light hiking approximately 4-6 miles each day, with teaching on site before the Whole group. Our “Less Strenuous Tour”, however, is a trip with options. At certain sites, participants will be able to choose between a more rigorous hiking opportunities or a less vigorous hike. It is highly recommended that each participant prepare physically for this trip.

Our study trips provide participants with experiences and insights into the culture, geography and history of the land of the Bible. Vital to this is walking the land as Jesus and his talmideds (disciples) did. The followers of Jesus not only learned with their eyes and ears but also with their feet. In so doing they grew into a close knit community. As we learn with our feet, the Word of God grows our perspective in new and exciting ways. Under the Fig Tree study experiences are not the typical “tours” where tourist sites drive the tour. We view our study trip ministry as a message to be experienced, one from which God will seek fruit. Signing on to travel with George will involve going to a variety of key biblical sites along with ones not found on typical tours. Our trip experiences include, the Negev and Judah wilderness, central and southern Jordan (Petra), north and central Galilee, Jerusalem and the old city, as well as traditional and non-traditional sites.

Lifting your Leadership – “Learning to walk in the Shepherd’s Sandals”

It is interesting how God evaluates leadership in the Bible – Israel’s prophets, priests and kings are measured as either good or bad shepherds. So strong is the Shepherd metaphor that Jesus describes himself as “The Good Shepherd” and while one may think they know what a shepherd is, few in leadership have spent any time with either an actual shepherd or sheep. On this trip that will change, we will begin to learn to “walk in the Shepherd’s sandals”!

Our experience begins in the wilderness of Paran, southern Israel, where our study centers on the dramatic contrast between the great shepherd of Egypt, Pharaoh, with that of God’s shepherd, Moses. Then to Petra, Jordan, where we take an in depth look at shepherd leadership firsthand. Early that day participants will be partnered with a shepherd and his flock for an entire day (2 or 3 participants per flock) to “see with our eyes & hear with our ears”. The goal is to discover why the image of shepherd is so distinctive to God and why He so prizes “good” Shepherd leadership. That evening we regroup around a campfire to share and process our experiences and prepare for our study of Israel’s Shepherd Leaders: Aaron the “shepherd” priest, Moses the “shepherd” prophet, and David the “shepherd” king.

The following day our study continues with climbing Mt. Hor where Israel’s first high priest Aaron was “gathered to his people”. Then north to Mt. Nebo where Israel’s greatest prophet Moses died. The following day will be hiking Wadi Arnon and our study: “Leadership through the Valley of the Shadow”. We travel next to Jerusalem and a study of “a man after God’s heart”; David, the Shepherd king of Israel. Our time culminates on the Mt. of Olives and a study of Jesus where we wrestle with the implications of Good Shepherd’s leadership; the one who lays down his life for his sheep and the implications for our leadership in our homes, churches, and the marketplace

    Legacy Path :

    The Israel Experience

"Thus says the Lord: Stand by the roads and look and ask for the ancient paths, where the good way is; and walk in it and find rest for your souls."

    – Jeremiah 6:16

    Heritage, influence, purpose, and legacy.

These ideas were hard wired into the hearts of men and women by the Lord alone. Join me as we walk the ancient paths of our Christian heritage seeking to understand the roots of our Christian faith. Discover the places of influence where God placed people of the Bible like Abraham, Samson, Hezekiah, and David. Traverse the hills of Galilee and connect with the life and ministry of Jesus and his disciples. Travel the streets of Jerusalem and contemplate the legacy of faith beginning with Abraham and fulfilled in the resurrection of Christ extending into your life. Understand the grander purposes of God as they are revealed in the history, archaeology, geography, and culture of the Scriptures. As we experience Israel with the Biblical text as our guide, open your eyes to understand the Scriptures through its eastern context maybe for the first time. All along the way consider your own faith as you are challenged to understand the paths of God in your own life and to leave a lasting legacy.
